The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season three has landed – and this time, it’s Jace Terry and Mikayla Matthews who are putting their relationship under the spotlight.
After opening up about her childhood abuse last season, the newest instalment of SLOMW sees Mikayla delve deeper into her trauma – including intimacy issues between her and Jace. This season’s emotional scenes and public bickering were a marked difference for the duo, who once seemed MomTok’s most solid couple.
However, their honesty has prompted praise from fans of the show – with many calling their journey ‘inspirational’. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one wrote, ‘[Mikayla] has no idea how many scarred little girls turned grown women/mothers are harbouring dark times from their childhood and never dealing with it. She’s a star and I love her.’

When did Jace and Mikayla meet?
Mikayla, 25, previously revealed that she first met Jace, 30, after leaving home at 15 years old. The pair met through her sister, going on to date once she turned 16.
Falling pregnant that same year, the pair went on to welcome their son Beckham, eight, in July 2017, later tying the knot in 2018. They’re also parents to a daughters Haven, six, Tommie, four, and Lottie, four months.
What happened to Jace and Mikayla in season three?
Early on in season three, Mikayla revealed to her close friend Mayci that she and Jace were facing intimacy issues in their marriage. She revealed, ‘I feel like our s*xual relationship has been struggling for a while now.’
‘We never fight about money, we never fight about parenting, we never fight about anything,’ she continued, ‘It’s only the s*xual stuff. And it’s not even fighting about it, it’s just like I have this anger around it still.’
Mikayla later revealed how she believed her issues stemmed from her history of childhood s*xual abuse, delving into it deeper during a session of EMDR therapy.
The couple’s relationship came to blows when the SLOMW crew attended Stagecoach festival. While Jace was having fun drinking with the cast, Mikayla – who was heavily pregnant with the couple’s fourth child at the time – was left unimpressed.
‘I am a little upset with Jace because he’s kind of being cold to me, but then he’s having shots, he’s having fun with the group. I feel like it kind of put me in a bad mood. Why do you think you’re going to have fun without me?’ she questioned.
With Jace spending the festival apart from his wife, he later told cameras, ‘As sad as that is to say, maybe we do need to separate for a time. I just am honestly at breaking point.’
The following day, Jace was seen chatting to Taylor – who faced her own relationship dramas this season – about his struggle. Admitting that he had ‘a little bit of jealousy there’ when it came to Dakota and Taylor’s s*xual chemistry, he said, ‘I do long for that in Mikayla and I’s relationship. I do think we’re going to get there too, and it’s just going to take me being patient.’
Did Mikayla and Jace go to therapy?
A turning point came for Mikayla and Jace after they chose to attend couples therapy.
When asked by their therapist what they’d rate themselves as s*xual beings with s*xual interest, their conflict arose. While Mikayla described herself as being ‘pretty low, like a one or two,’ Jace replied, ‘I feel like when I never get it, it’s like a 10. If I got my way, I would do it like three times a day.’
However, Jace admitted during the session that he was ’embarrassed and ashamed’ to have upset his wife. Offering his support, he continued, ‘At the end of the day, I don’t think it’s your fault. I think it’s someone else’s fault that took those things and stole things from you. If I’m frustrated, I’m frustrated with those people, I’m not frustrated with you. I think you’re doing a really good job.’
Are Mikayla and Jace still together?
Although their therapy session ended with the pair agreeing to continue on their journey, Jace did raise some concerns. ‘I do know it’s very hard for Mikayla to have the motivation to fix these things, and I’m very worried that we just won’t go [to couples therapy],’ he explained.
While we’ll have to wait to see whether SLOMW may bring more of their therapy journey next season, a glimpse at Mikayla and Jace’s social media shows that the couple are very much still together. The pair welcomed their baby girl in June, with the pair sharing snippets into their life as a family of six.
Jace’s Instagram bio reads ‘Husband to Mikayla.’ During a sweet tribute to his wife posted last year, the star wrote, ‘I’m so grateful for Mikayla. She works tirelessly to support our family through chronic illness and long hours filming. We’re so proud of how she’s represented herself and are so happy to have her as a wife/mama.’
