All About Mormon Wives Star Chase McWhorter, His Arrest & His Role in the MomTok Swinging Scandal
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Miranda McWhorter’s ex-husband, Chase, is making headlines after he was arrested.
Chase, who separated from Miranda in 2023, was allegedly arrested and charged with driving under the influence and cocaine possession in a July 4 incident, according to The US Sun. According to court documents obtained by The US Sun, Chase alleged “drifted outside of the travel lane several times” and “smelled of alcohol.”
According to Utah police, the 30-year-old “did knowingly and intentionally possess or use a controlled substance,” while “driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs” with a suspended or revoked license. A substance was allegedly found in the car that tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl. After allegedly failing to appear at his first court hearing, he was issued an arrest warrant, which was later recalled. He is pleading not guilty.
Chase has made fleeting appearances on the show because of his ex-wife and his former fling with Taylor Frankie Paul.
Those who are chronically online and up to speed with MomTok and the infamous soft swinging scandal will know Miranda as one of the original members of the Utah-based, soda-drinking influencer group whose marriage fell apart after participating in “swinging” parties with Taylor.
For those who aren’t up to speed, we’ve got everything you need to know.
All About Miranda McWhorter’s Ex-Husband Chase
Chase was married to Miranda from 2017 until 2023. The couple met a year before their marriage, shortly after Miranda finished high school and Chase, who is two years older than her, returned home from an LDS mission.
Miranda and Chase share two children: a son, Brooks, born in 2020, and a daughter, Cohen, born in October 2021.
Miranda & Chase Divorced After the Viral ‘Soft Swinging’ Scandal
In 2022, Miranda’s longtime friend Taylor Frankie Paul revealed that her marriage to ex-husband Tate had ended after the couple participated in “soft swinging” with some of their friends, and she stepped outside of their agreement and cheated with one of the men in the group.
Quickly, Paul’s followers began to speculate that Miranda and Chase were one of the couples involved. They initially denied being involved and distanced themselves from Utah influencers. In September 2024, Chase spoke to Us Weekly and admitted that he and Miranda attended parties where drinking games led to sexual exploration within the group but he didn’t characterize it as swinging.
“It was never predetermined that we were going to be doing, like, swinging,” Chase said. “That’s what we always thought was a little bit misrepresented in Taylor’s story, as she presents it.”
“I think we all regret what happened… We probably should have not been there,” Chase said. “But at the same time, why does this have to be a public thing? It seems like this was all happening behind closed doors, and now Taylor’s using it as a springboard to notoriety when she’s the one that actually just cheated.”
Chase Allegedly Confessed ‘Feelings’ for Taylor Frankie Paul
Though Chase is not the man Paul cheated on her husband with, she has claimed that he confessed his feelings to her during the period in which they were swinging.
“One of the husbands in the group came up to me and told me he had feelings for me [while] in the gym,” Paul revealed during a September 2024 appearance on The Viall Files podcast, describing the man’s wife as “my best friend.” This caused fans to speculate that this was Chase due to Paul’s once-close friendship with Miranda.
Taylor later confirmed that Chase was the person she was referring to, posting a TikTok on Jan. 18 sharing screenshots of text allegedly sent by Chase saying he had a “secret” and “need to chat sometime tho if possible.” Taylor captioned the post, “He’s lucky he kept the actual confession in person.”
Does Chase Appear in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives?
Yes, Chase makes his first appearance in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in the third episode of season two, where he and his then-girlfriend, Kate, attend a party hosted by cast member Jessi Ngatikaura.

There, he has a heated conversation with Paul and her on-off partner, Dakota Mortensen, over the details of the swinging scandal, followed by a confrontation with Demi Engemann’s husband, Brett.
In the finale of season three, Chase meets with Taylor to apologize for how he treated her during season two. The two looked back on their past and even joked about sharing a kiss.
Chase also appears in season three of the show when Layla Taylor, whom he briefly dated, begins a relationship with his brother, Mason.
Miranda & Chase Are on Good Terms After Their Divorce
Miranda and Chase are successfully co-parenting their children together after their 2023 split.
“I think we both realized that we’d gotten married a little prematurely, and that’s why our relationship still is pretty, good [now], like, we’re really cordial, really friendly,” Chase told Us Weekly last year. “[I] still chat with her a lot, whenever she drops the kids off, and vice versa… I think it’s working out really well, and we’re kind of figuring out how to continue navigating that in a positive way.”
